Innovations Children’s Centre

Innovations Children’s Centre Nursery

Innovations Children’s Centre is a purpose built building based in the grounds of Dean Field Community Primary School in Ovenden. The centre is easily accessible from Cousin Lane and has good transport links with a regular bus service to and from Halifax.

Innovations has been offering day care, services and training from May 2004, when it was officially opened by former local MP Alice Mahon. The centre supports the local community and their families through providing childcare, early education, health services and training opportunities.

At Innovations we believe that each child should be given an opportunity for the best start in life and families are supported on any life changing journeys they take. We strive to make family life a positive and enjoyable experience.

The team at Innovations have a good understanding of services available in the North and East Halifax area and are able to confidently signpost to services and support families to do this.

Families, carers and visitors who use the centre are regularly consulted about services on offer at the centre and are involved in decisions to take the centre forward and develop it for the future.

Baby Room

Our cosy baby room caters for 12 babies between the ages of 0-18 months, cared for by a team of qualified staff members working on a 1 to 3 ratio.

This self contained room enables babies to play, eat and have their individual needs met in a safe and secure environment.

The baby room faces out onto our large outdoor play area and babies have regular access to outdoor play throughout the day.

The baby room staff team provides a warm welcome to all families. They support and work with families to help the babies reach their full potential. Each family is supported by their key person and families are invited to key person feedback sessions on a regular basis to ensure they are involved in their baby’s development and learning.

Throughout the day our babies will be offered a range of stimulating activities that help them to develop and thrive.

Toddler Room

Our busy toddler room accommodates 18 children aged 18 month to up to 3 years old. They are cared for by a team of qualified staff members working on a 1 to 4 ratio.

This busy room enables toddlers to have the opportunity to take part in creative, imaginative, physical, mental and quiet activities to develop their skills.

Toddlers focus on developing children’s self care skills such as toilet training, speech and language development and personal, social and emotional development.

Toddlers enjoy free access to our large outdoor play area and these busy children take full advantage of its many opportunities.

Preschool

Our large preschool room caters for 28 children between the ages of 2 ½  to 5 years, cared for by a team of qualified staff members working on a 1 to 8 ratio.

The team within this room helps develop children’s life skills and prepares them for their journey into school. Preschool staff work with children and their families to support them with the transition into school from start to finish.

Preschool children are encouraged to develop their independence skills and make choices for themselves throughout the day. Children are actively supported to develop their self care skills. For example self service at meal times and tooth brushing daily.

The children are encouraged to access all areas of the preschool room which is set out in areas to develop creative, IT, imaginative, mathematical and physical skills. Preschool children have free access to the outdoor area throughout the day and enjoy facing the challenges and learning new things that this area brings.

Parental Involvement and Home Learning

We encourage parents to be involved in their child’s journey through parents evenings and we are currently launching a family app called “Famly”. We send home monthly home learning activities and hold regular events at the Children’s Centre to build strong bonds.

Please see our sample menu

We encourage our children to make good choices around healthy foods and how this helps us to grow and develop. On site we have an allotment where children have been planting fruit and vegetables, watering them daily and watching them grow.

In August 2016 Innovations Children’s Centre achieved the Food for Life Award. The food for life award provided us with a platform we had been waiting for. Our Children’s centre is passionate about food and understands a lack of food can have on Children’s learning and health. Working towards the award has increased practitioners knowledge and understanding about the importance of ensuring children have the right foods at the right times.
