Hints and Tips

Innovations and Kevin Pearce Children’s Centre take part in project with Octopus Energy Group

Kevin Pearce and Innovations Children’s Centre, run by Sure Start North Halifax Partnership, were approached by Octopus Energy Group to take part in a special project together.

On 20th July, the energy company visited Innovations Children’s Centre to complete a workshop with the children. The children had the chance to learn all about renewable energy and created drawings which Octopus Energy will now use as projections on the turbines! Octopus Energy own wind turbine number three at Ovenden Moor.

They also had a special visitor, Constantine the Octopus puppet, who spoke about how we can look after our planet, what energy is and how we need to try use less. The children were then provided with a kit to make their own wind turbine. Fact sheets were also given to parents with top tips on how to save energy which included weekly tasks they could complete to reduce energy in the home.

Quarterly Health message from Sure Start Children’s Centres

These are our Children Centres Health and Safety messages which are reviewed and shared quarterly with parents/carers and service users. The purpose of the Health and Safety messages is to offer advice and signpost when necessary. The Health and Safety messages are focused on seasonal issues and health/safety campaigns. For further information please contact Jennifer Langford at Wellholme Park Children Centre on 01484 714768.

Safer Sleep Week Resources

Safer Sleep Week took place Monday, 14th March to Sunday, 20th March. We shared various resources on our Facebook page throughout the week to promote the #letskeepitclear message. The aim is to remind everyone of the simple and easy to follow safer sleep advice. All a baby needs is a firm, flat sleep space that is clear of toys, bulky bedding and accessories, and a simple blanket or baby sleep bag. We want to promote this message and reach as many people who look after a baby as possible, to make them aware that some of the images of baby sleep space aren’t always the safest.

View the resources we shared throughout the week here.

Breastfeeding Support Group

This will take place at Wellholme Children’s Centre – Every Tuesday 10-11am.

PLACES ARE BOOKABLE – but this is really easy to do simply phone Locala on 0300 304 5076 and leave a message stating your full name and the group you would like to attend. Confirmation of your place will be sent via text from the Health Visitor service.

The early days and weeks of breastfeeding can feel much easier with the support of a group and we would encourage anyone who is new to breastfeeding to book a course of 3 weeks to begin with.

Eid Celebrations

Baseer Mir, Senior Family Support Manager, hosted an Eid Al-Fitr party at Illingworth Children’s Centre. There was information displayed about Ramadan and Eid and an opportunity to ask any questions about the celebration.

The star of the event (unsurprisingly!) was the delicious food which included a range of mouth-watering curries and starters.

We hope you all enjoyed celebrating with us, Eid Mubarak.

Easter fun at HAF

North Halifax Partnership were pleased to join forces with Positive Impact Sports and Ash Green Primary to provide a fun holiday camp over Easter.

The Holiday Camp, also known as the HAF program, was free for children between 5-11 years who are eligible for free school meals.

The program has had a huge impact on supporting our community and creating lasting memories for children. From archery and boxing to arts and crafts, there was something for everyone to enjoy. There was also workshops around nutrition and a healthy breakfast and lunch was provided each day.
